A woman has been charged after she allegedly stabbed a man to death in Ballarat on Saturday.
Police allege the woman fatally stabbed the man at a home on Park Lane in Mount Helen just before 8am on Saturday morning.
The body of a man was lying on the front lawn of the home on Saturday morning covered by a white sheet.
It is understood detectives seized a knife from inside the home on Saturday, and paid close attention to a section in the home’s backyard.
It is believed the woman called police after the alleged stabbing.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and performed CPR on the man, but he died at the scene.
The woman was swiftly taken into custody.
She was known to the man but their relationship was unclear, and she will be quizzed by detectives on Saturday.
The ages of the woman and the deceased are not yet known.
The Sunday Herald Sun has also been told a young child was present at the home at the time.
It is understood the woman in custody was the man’s partner.
A police statament said: “Homicide Squad Detectives have charged a woman following a fatal stabbing in Mount Helen this morning.
“The 38-year-old Mount Helen woman has been charged with one count of murder.
“She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on December 30.”
Neighbours say a couple had lived at the home for several years but largely kept to themselves.
Park Lane resident Doug Mills said a man at that home appeared to friendly.
“(We’re in a) state of disbelief really,” Mr Mills said.
“We heard the ambulance and police car just after 8am and it woke me up.
“There’s not a lot of interaction but they seemed OK, nothing out of the ordinary I wouldn’t think.
“I think (the deceased man) used to like going fishing and stuff like that.”
Liz Snibson said she was struggling to process the man’s death.
“I was quite shocked … they seemed to be very quiet, you never see them walking around or anything,” she said.
“I couldn’t believe it. It’s terrible, it’s very, very sad. All the neighbours will be shocked.”
The single-storey red-brick home is in a quiet residential street about 8km south of Ballarat, between Mount Clear and Buninyong.
Police have established a crime scene and investigations are ongoing.
