A “besotted” first-time grandma who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband in their Langwarrin home has been remembered by family and friends for her bright and bubbly personality.

Yvonne Beres, 59, was allegedly killed by her husband John Beres, 63, at their Wood Duck Court property on Boxing Day.

It’s alleged Mr Beres fatally stabbed his wife then called police who found her body inside the home about 6.30am.

Mr Beres was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder.

The couple’s relative Stefany Nemet told the Herald Sun Ms Beres was a “besotted” grandma to her one-year-old grandson.

“She loved her family, she had a beautiful nephew and we could just see what a beautiful grandma she would be one day,” she said.

“When her only grandson came along, she was glowing. She was besotted over that little boy.

“We just knew that she would be a wonderful grandma. We saw that love radiant through her.”

Ms Beres worked as an administration manager at Eastpoint Property Consultants and volunteered at greyhound charity Gear 4 Grey’s.

It’s understood she enjoyed going to the snow and skiing with her daughters Emma and Christina and son Stephen.

Ms Nemet said Ms Beres was bright, bubbly and friendly.

“She was just a wonderful person, she was always up for a talk and a chat,” she said.

“She was very generous with her time and would always invite us to celebratory events.”

Ms Nemet said Ms Beres death was a “shock”.

“We never saw any of this coming, never,” she said.

“Nothing to this extent did we ever imagine this could have happened.”

Ms Beres’ friend Kim Weir said nothing about the couple’s relationship seemed alarming.

“They seemed quite loving, that’s why it’s such a shock,” she said.

“It’s so out-of-character.”

Ms Weir said she had been friends with Ms Beres for 27 years.

“She was always there for me, she was supportive in all sorts of ways,” she said.

“She was a lovely and beautiful person. We are going to miss her.”

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from Victoria Police’s Homicide Squad said the couple hosted their family for a Christmas Day gathering hours before the violence unfolded.

It comes as Mr Beres faced court for a brief filing hearing on Thursday night.

The court heard he had type 2 diabetes and took medication for back problems.

“The painkillers are for the two back surgeries I’ve had in December 2020 and January 2021,” Mr Beres told Magistrate Tara Hartnett.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court in April.
