Balance, bars and beams were highlights of the 2022 Junior Victorian Gymnastics Championships, which took place over the last two weekends.
Six gymsports were showcased at the event, allowing gymnasts of all different backgrounds to compete.
Alex Luyckx, who competed at the event, has also been named as part of the 36th FIG Trampoline World Championships Squad.
The 19-year-old, affectionately known as ‘Lucky’, said his advice to young athletes was to just have fun.
“Anything is achievable! There are always more chances, so don’t put yourself under pressure,” he said.
More than 1700 young men and women competed at the championships, along with over 300 technical staff judges, coaches and event officials.
This was the first time the Junior Victorian Gymnastics Championships had been held in three years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gymnastics Victoria CEO, Robin O, Neill, said he was thrilled to see so many young men and women competing after such a long hiatus.
“This event marks a pivotal step in the return of opportunities for competitive athletes. It was wonderful seeing the joy on their faces as capacity crowds celebrated their performances across the four-days of competition,” Mr O’Neill said.
