Horrific moment young girl has machete held to throat on Mount Waverley doorstep

Security cameras have captured the terrifying moment a teenage girl and her friend were cornered by a group of youths armed with machetes outside a random Mount Waverley home.

Disturbing figures show extent of youth crime crisis

A young girl had a machete held to her neck on the doorstep of a random Mount Waverley home after being chased down by a group of youths from a nearby illegal rave.

The horrific moment – captured on home security cameras – showed three youths hunt the terrified girl and her male friend, both understood to be no older than 14, to the Sadie St property about 11.15pm on Friday night before cornering them and demanding an apology.

An unsuspecting homeowner, who ventured outside after hearing a disturbance, quickly retreated indoors to call Triple-0 as the pair - also carrying a large knife - tried to seek refuge inside the home where the man’s family slept.

Frightening vision from a front door camera captured the entire ordeal, as a youth wearing an orange cap and black puffer jacket confronts the girl and holds a machete to her neck.

“Say sorry!” the offender demanded for reasons unknown as the pair begged them to stop.

“Please... please!” the girl cried out in response.

Wearing a red jumper, the teen could be seen with her arms up in an apparent attempt to shield her friend from the attacking group.

It is understood the groups had an earlier altercation at an alcohol-fuelled rave at the nearby Mount Waverley drains - a popular party spot - that was attended by hundreds of youths before police arrived to break up the gathering.

According to 3AW, the girl and her friend were reportedly heard a short time later screaming for help as they were chased by the older trio through suburban streets.

The ordeal comes as Victoria Police continue to battle an exploding youth crime crisis, amplified by the number of Children’s Courts operating across Melbourne being reduced.

Recent data from the Crime Statistics Agency, released last month, showed crimes committed by children aged 10 to 17 had risen to their highest level since 2010.

Victoria Police spokeswoman told the Herald Sun that officers attended the property following reports of an altercation outside a house just after 11pm.

“Police spoke to potential victims who did not wish to make a statement but were provided police details if they wish to make a report at a later date,” a spokeswoman said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”
