25-year-old Clayton man charged, bailed after hit-and-run involving child in Murrumbeena

A 25-year-old Clayton man has been charged with a litany of traffic offences after allegedly running into a child in Murrumbeena earlier this month and leaving him hospitalised.

A man has been charged over a serious hit and run that hospitalised an 11-year-old boy in Melbourne’s southeast.

Suhas Sunkisala was riding his bicycle over a pedestrian crossing on the way home from school on May 1 when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Railway Parade and Ardyne Street in Murrumbeena.

The driver of the silver Toyota Yarris that hit the boy is alleged to have fled the scene, travelling westbound on Railway Parade.

Suhas was rushed to the Royal Children’s hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken ankle.

A 25-year-old Clayton man was charged on Friday with a litany of traffic offences including negligently causing serious injury, careless driving and failing to give way.

He has been bailed to face Moorabbin Magistrates Court on August 1.
