A crocodile has been spotted at a popular Top End creek, 10 km north of the Darwin CBD.

In a Facebook post to NT Field Naturalists’ Club Inc on Tuesday evening, Joann Hewett posted an image – sent to her by her son – of a crocodile lounging on the water’s edge at Rapid Creek, just under Trower Rd.

Later, in an updated version of her post, Ms Hewett said the crocodile management team were already aware of the croc and would install another trap.

“He was reported last week”, she said.

“They think he’s a wee bit skinny around the shoulders and don’t want him to have a go at anyone to try and fatten up.”

“For all those that swim there, you’re braver than me.”

Many users responded to Ms Hewett’s post telling her and others to leave the crocodile alone.

“Leave him/her be, at least till the end of the Wet”, one user said.

“Put up signs; and it’s the local’s responsibility to be crocwise and teach their kids to be crocwise.

“Remember, we are in their territory, they’re not in ours.”

Other users urged Territorians to keep out of the water until it is removed.

“Hope someone reported it and had it removed; lots of kids play in the creek”, one user said.

Another said she had been there the same day, where there were “at least 15 kids swimming there”.

Ms Hewett and Parks and Wildlife NT have been contacted for comment.
