Widespread blackouts in Karama, Holmes, Knuckey Lagoon and Malak have led to students at one school being given an extra-early-mark.

February 7, 12pm: A Top End school is sending students home due to power outages.

PowerWater on Friday morning reported black outs in Karama, Holmes, Knuckey Lagoon and Malak just before 10am.

The issue was resolved less than two hours later at about 11.45am, and power has been restored.

In the meantime, however, students at O’Loughlin Catholic College were given permission to leave school in an email sent to parents at 11.20am, and seen by this masthead.

“Due to an unexpected power outage of unknown length, we give permission to students to be picked up from school,” it said.

“Power is intermittent at this stage.”

February 6, 4pm: Northern Territory police have charged a 17-year-old male in relation to multiple damaged vehicles in Nightcliff on Tuesday morning.

Around 1.30am a male attended an apartment complex on Boetdoemba Street, where he allegedly unlawfully entered the parking bay and caused significant damage to four vehicles parked within the compound, before leaving the premises.

A short time later he returned and allegedly damaged a further five vehicles before again fleeing the scene.

Strike Force Trident members took carriage of the investigation and on Wednesday, they arrested and charged a 17-year-old male with damage to property, trespass and breach bail.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Christopher Humphries condemned the teens actions.

“The actions of this male are senseless and unacceptable,” he said.

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated, and police will continue to identify and hold offenders to account.”

Bus security guards arrest alleged rock-throwing woman

February 6, 7am: A young woman allegedly pelting rocks at a busy Darwin bus stop was taken down by bus stop security workers.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said a 25-year-old woman was reported throwing rocks at the Casuarina Bus Exchange around 4.25pm, Wednesday.

Mr Rankin also alleged the young woman used scissors to threaten security staff.

Police arrived to find the woman restrained by the bus stop security guards.

Mr Rankin said as the 25-year-old was arrested she allegedly spat on one of the officers, and kicked two others before she was taken to the watch house.

She is expected to face Darwin Local Court on Thursday charged with assaulting workers and police, and damaging property.

No members of the public were injured in the incident.

Girl in hospital after alleged Northern suburbs assault

February 5, 12.30pm: A 20-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old girl with an edged weapon in Nightcliff.

NT Police are calling for information following the assault on Boetdoemba St in Nightcliff about 11.15pm on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old victim was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries to the torso.

Police said they believe the victim and the alleged offender were known to each other.

The 20-year-old was arrested at the scene and she remains in custody with charges expected to come.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether nearby vehicle damage was related to the incident.

Police urge anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, to contact 131 444 and quote reference NTP2500013078.

$140k worth of vapes seized in Palmerston police raid

February 3, 2.30pm: A police raid on a Top End home has resulted in the seizure of $140,000 worth of nicotine vapes.

At midday on Friday NT Police received a tip of illicit substances at a Palmerston residence.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad searched the home – seizing cannabis and 2335 vapes.

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have each been issued with a notice to appear at Darwin Local Court on May 29.

“These seizures are the result of the collaborative actions of Serious Crime Squad detectives and members of the Dog Operations Unit and Drug and Organised Crime Section,” Detective Sergeant Alicia Harvey said.

“Intelligence received from members of the community assisted with this result and we continue to urge anyone with information on the supply of illegal substances to contact Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Woman allegedly caught sneaking grog into dry community

February 3, 12.30pm: A woman will face court after allegedly attempting to sneak a dozen bottles of bundy into dry Aboriginal communities.

NT Police seized 12 bottles of run, a carton of beer, and four cans of pre-mix alcohol they allege was intended for distribution within remote communities in the Daly River Region.

About 9pm on Friday, local police members established a roadblock along Port Keats Rd before stopping a car attempting to enter the alcohol restricted area.

The 37-year-old woman driving was issued a notice to appear for alleged offences including possessing and conveying alcohol into a general restricted area.

“This was fantastic work from local members and our message is simple: you just never know where and when police will be on the road,” Acting Superintendent Erica Gibson said.

“The disruption of alcohol into restricted communities has a detrimental impact on the health, safety and finances of everyone.

“Police will continue to proactively target anyone who seeks to take advantage of alcohol restricted areas.

“If you have any information regarding the distribution of drugs or alcohol into remote communities, please contact police on 131 444.”
