Townsville youth crime: Teen charged after knifepoint robbery, stolen car escapade near Willows Shopping Centre

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly robbing a pedestrian at knifepoint before fleeing the scene in a stolen car near a Townsville shopping centre.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly robbing a pedestrian at knifepoint before fleeing the scene in a stolen car near a Townsville shopping centre.

Police responded to reports that a teen offender armed with a knife allegedly approached a boy and stole some property near Willows Shopping Centre on Carthew St, Thuringowa Central, about 12.30am on Friday.

Fortunately, the victim wasn’t physically injured during the alleged robbery.

Police then observed an alleged stolen vehicle along Thuringowa Drive a short time later.

A 16-year-old Cranbrook boy was located and arrested in Cranbrook shortly before 5am.

He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis), and possession of a knife in a public place.

He has been denied police bail and is expected to appear at Townsville Children’s Court on March 30.
