Townsville prisoner dies after being found unresponsive in cell

A 38-year-old man has been found dead at Townsville Correctional Centre.

A prisoner at Townsville Correctional Centre has died after he was found unresponsive in his cell.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) confirmed the death of a 38-year-old man in custody over the weekend.

It is understood that officers found the inmate unresponsive in his cell at 10am on Saturday morning and commenced CPR while medical staff attended, however the man was unable to be revived.

A police investigation is underway into the incident and will be subject to review by the coroner.

QCS have offered their condolences to the man’s family and community.
