Residents share images and videos of a truck rampage through Townsville’s streets

Alarming footage has emerged of a truck’s rampage through Townsville streets, hitting a light pole and a car before it crashed. Watch the video.

Truck driven dangerously in Townsville on Friday night

Concerned residents have shared images and videos of a white truck being driven dangerously around Townsville for more than two hours, leaving a trail of destruction, including a rammed vehicle, before it eventually crashed.

A Queensland Police spokesman said they responded to a single-vehicle crash into a fence on Bundock St, West End, at 10.30pm on Friday – where there were no serious injuries.

In the lead up to the crash, one video shared to social media captured what is understood to be a single cab Isuzu truck being driven along with its tip tray still up.

Another resident shared an image of a palm tree knocked down on Woolcock St, while another shared an image of debris left behind after the vehicle reportedly collided with a light pole at the intersection of Borg St and Paskin St, Vincent.

Cranbrook resident Carmen Parker shared an image of the wrecked door panels of her car, saying she had been taken out by the truck at the roundabout of Fitzroy and Charles St, Heatley, at about 8.30pm.

“We were just coming home from getting pizza … I was already on the roundabout and the truck came from the left and looked like he was going to stop, and then he just kept going and rammed into the side of us,” Ms Parker said.

“We continued around the roundabout and pulled over and he just kept going.

“My friend knocked his head on the side of the car. He’s got a sore jaw today and a sore tooth. I got a jarred back and sore shoulder today. Yeah, scary.”

Despite the police helicopter following the truck “for a couple of hours”, she was told by police that they couldn’t do anything until it crashed.

“It could have been a lot worse. He could have killed people. But three hours he was out there on the rampage, at least three hours, not good,” she said.

Renee Austin described seeing a white tilt tray truck “swerving all over the road” down Brentnall St, Mysterton, at 10.13pm.

Other motorists followed the truck, sharing a video of it running a red light and swerving all over the road before it crashed into a fence.

The man who had been driving the truck was filmed fleeing the scene.

It remains unclear whether the vehicle was stolen or if the suspect has been taken into custody or charged.

The police investigation continues.

More to follow.
