A worker’s favourite coffee stop, where friends meet for brunch and the place you can count on to be open for a snack on the weekend – is what this Townsville cafe prides itself in being, after serving residents for almost a decade.

Co-owner of The Beet Bar, Carly Chiesa said there are many elements behind the business’ success so far, with one of the main points being accessibility.

“Sometimes the city isn’t very attractive for business owners, we’ve tried to really hang in there over the years and make ourselves as attractive to customers as possible,” she said.

“We have found we are one of the only cafes that stay open later than others, we’re open every day of the year apart from Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Boxing Day.

“We try to remain consistent for customers and we’ve found people honour that so it’s always been worth our wild.”

When it comes to success, it also helps that the cafe offers handmade food items, that switch up to suit the seasons.

“We throw in new elements every six months,” the co-owner said.

“We have acai bowls, protein bowls, smoothies, all-day breakfast menu, a lunch menu, smoothies and juices.

“We know everything that goes into our meals, it’s a lot of prep and labour intensive but we’ve found our customers appreciate it and it keeps people coming back.”

The cafe took up new stumps on its Stokes Street location in the middle of 2021 and have seen its regular customers, along with new ones transfer over.

“Over time we have people who and live near the city come in, so that’s a positive for us,” she said.

“And on weekends we’re more of a destination so people head into the city to come to The Beet Bar which is lovely.”

The Beet Bar at G1/21 Stokes Street, Townsville City opens at 6:30am to 3pm seven days a week.
