There will be stories to tell and people with games when the Aitkenvale Library opens wide for the First Five Forever Open day with special guest Play School legend Jay Laga’aia and children’s author Billie-Jean Taylor this Tuesday.
The Citylibraries open day event is a chance to sing, dance and for parents to bond with their children at Songtime and let their imaginations soar at Storytime while exploring the newly-updated parent facilities and play space at the Aitkenvale Library.
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the open day was a great introduction to First 5 Forever for parents and guardians.
“First 5 Forever is a Queensland Government initiative, co-ordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local governments like Townsville City Council to help foster literacy skills in Queensland’s kids,” Cr Greaney said.
“The first five years of a child’s literacy last a lifetime, which is why it’s so important to talk, read, sing and play with your child.
“Our First 5 Forever activities at Townsville Citylibraries are our most popular programs and we’re always encouraging more members of the community to get involved.
“We’re all very excited to welcome Jay Laga’aia and Billie-Jean Taylor to our First 5 Forever Open Day on Tuesday. Billie-Jean will be doing a special story time with her book My People.
“I’d encourage all parents and guardians to children from infants to five years old to head along to the open day and our other First 5 Forever activities.”
The First 5 Forever Open Day will run from 8.45am to 11am at Aitkenvale Park, next to Aitkenvale Library, on Petunia St.
