Seven in hospital after emergency services respond to five separate incidents across Townsville and Mount Isa

Emergency services were kept busy as North Queensland rang in the New Year, with a man suffering potentially life-threatening injuries after an alleged assault at North Ward in the early hours of January 1.

The man in his 40s sustained a significant head injury after the incident at The Seaview Hotel on The Strand.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 1.32am on January 1 and transported the man to Townsville University Hospital.

Police also responded to an incident at a business on Flinders Street in the early hours of January 1.

It’s alleged a 19-year-old man was assaulted and was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are investigating.

Another incident occurred in the early hours of New Year’s morning when police and emergency services were called to Riverway Drive in Kelso at 3.52am.

Two men were transported to Townsville University Hospital with leg injuries after a motorcycle crash.

The passenger, a 20-year-old Mount Low man, remains in a critical condition and the rider, an 18-year-old Kelso man, is in a stable condition.

Police advised the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

A young woman in her mid-teens was also taken to hospital on New Year’s Eve following another vehicle crash on Thuringowa Road.

Paramedics responded at 11.01pm on December 31 and she remains in a stable condition.

In Mount Isa, two were transported to Mount Isa Hospital after a vehicle crashed into a culvert at 12.35am on January 1 on Lake Julius Road.

Both are in a stable condition, one patient suffered head and arm injuries and the other was treated for neck pain.
