Musical lovers are up in arms after Townsville Civic Theatre dramatically decreased the opening hours of its box office to just two hours before a show begins.
Normally, the box office counter in the Civic Theatre is open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
On March 17 however, these hours will be dramatically slashed and the box office will only be staffed two hours before a performance begins and will close 30 minutes after curtain raise.
Townsville City Council - which runs the box office - said these new hours reflected the time when most ticket buyers were actually attending the theatre in person and making purchases.
According to the Ticket Shop website, the Civic Theatre is hosting a sold-out show on Saturday night featuring Anthony Callea and Tim Campbell, and a drawing workshop on Sunday with the Townsville Bulletin’s own cartoonist Harry Bruce.
Those seeking to secure tickets early can make purchases over the phone (4727 9797) or online (ticketshop.com.au), however, there is a $4.10 transaction fee and 0.5 per cent credit card surcharge.
