The Townsville Academy of Performing Arts (TAPA) first opened its doors 25 years ago with 50 students and this week in a series of six concerts just under 900 will lighting up the stage.

TAPA principal Katrina Sayce said the dance school had been inspiring children from as young as two for the last quarter of a century.

“Beyond teaching great technique, TAPA is proud to nurture confidence, resilience, and commitment in every student,” she said.

“It has been a privilege to watch generations grow into not only talented dancers but also empowered individuals ready to take on life.

“This year, we celebrate this incredible milestone with six spectacular concerts, featuring over 1500 dazzling costumes lighting up the stage. Join us in honouring 25 years of excellence, passion, and community as we continue to create a legacy that will inspire for years to come.

“Twenty Five years of doing what we love and loving what we do.

Sayce said she got a great sense of achievement helping others to learn to dance and build their confidence.

“I think there’s so much out there that it’s good to have music in their lives and dance in their lives to express and to release any tension.

“But I love dancing and I want to share what I enjoyed so much as growing up.

She said the concerts would have a multitude of different styles from classical ballet, hip hop to jazz.

“It’s what they love to do, and that’s what we aim the concerts for.”

The last 5 concerts starts Thursday with Silver Celebrations and also Friday and Saturday evening and also two day concerts for younger performers on Saturday with Ready Set Move Shake & Celebrate.
