MORE than $11 billion of major development planned for the Toowoomba region could create as many as 10,000 jobs, new research shows.
Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise today released figures that show 6500 to 10,000 on-going jobs could be created during the first three years of completion of the Wellcamp Airport, Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and QIC shopping centre redevelopment.
The commissioned report showed the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing would create up to 6862 full time jobs.
Wellcamp Airport could be responsible for 3100 full-time jobs across the Toowoomba region once it is operational.
The QIC redevelopment will bring with it 1000 retail jobs once completed.
Enterprise CEO Shane Charles said with such large infrastructure came great opportunity.
"Infrastructure brings opportunity. We will be a major transport and logistics hub for the nation and have an airport with no curfew which brings significant potential for freight," Mr Charles said.
"With these major developments comes thousands of new jobs, which will have a huge economic impact on the region, and could also bring a dramatic flow-on effect for the region's tourism industry.
"These effects will rise dramatically if other major projects, such as the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Project and New Acland Coal Mine Stage 3, get off the ground and come to fruition.
"Toowoomba is finally coming of age and we are going to see some major growth within the next few years."
