The director behind one of Toowoomba’s most popular foodie destinations has revealed why he is selling the CBD food and commercial precinct.

Walton Stores founder and Newlands Group director Barry O’Sullivan said the time was right to move on from the multi-tenancy asset, having built it up over five years in partnership with Aspect Architects.

The Ruthven St precinct now features up to 15 tenancies, including anchor sites like Westpac, ANZ and the Commonwealth Bank.

It is also home to popular eateries Hello Harry, Junk, Zambrero and UVA Wine Bar.

Mr O’Sullivan said it was never his intention to hold onto Walton Stores.

“It was a development project, so it was always part of the plan to sell it,” he said.

“From project conception, the plan was always to have the facility fully tenanted before putting it out to market.”

Walton Stores picked up several awards for its design when it was first built, including the regional project of the year award in 2017 by the Australian Institute of Architects.

“Proponents have been pleased with the high occupancy demand, with three of the big four national banks residing within, hospitality groups and local lifestyle businesses,” he said.

“It’s an outstanding opportunity and we’re confident potential buyers will come flocking through the expressions of interest process.

“True to the initial vision of the space, it’s character and ideal CBD location has made Walton’s a venue of choice for many community events and pop-up stores.”
