Toowoomba’s first indoor gel blaster arena will open its doors today and to mark the occasion the owner is running a fundraiser for Mates4Mates.

The Urban Combatives arena is located in warehouse in Mort Street and is comprised of modular internal walls that can be altered to give regular combatants a fresh experience.

“It is like a building within a building,” owner Jordan Lloyd said.

“We can change the layout to keep it interesting with different hall ways and crawl spaces.”

Gel blaster combat has taken off as a popular past time as it cheaper and less painful than traditional paintball.

There are a range of game modes, from capture the flag, to a last-man-standing-style deathmatch.

Mr Lloyd said he hoped to start a local league and would encourage Darling Downs teams to compete in the Brisbane leagues.

“People aged 16-years and up can compete and we have a lot of defence bases nearby with personnel who have these skills.

“Gel blasters are good fun, they are like Nerf gun for big kids.”

It will be open seven days a week through the school holidays.

The business is offering discount rates for its grand opening which starts at 5pm Saturday and runs until late.

There will be a barbecue, drinks and raffles on site with all proceeds going to Mates4Mates.
