Uncertainty remains around dates of vaccination rollout in city

The city’s aged care facilities have experienced more delays in the wait for the Federal Government’s Pfizer vaccine rollout, something that has been attributed in part to the processes of HealthCare Australia.

Uncertainty still surrounds the Federal Government’s Pfizer vaccine rollout in Toowoomba, after more delays and rescheduling today.

Select aged care facilities in the city continue to wait on the jabs, which were to be administered at vaccination sessions earlier this week.

The country’s rollout has been knocked off schedule by a vaccination bungle in Brisbane on Tuesday, which saw two aged care residents administered four times the recommended dose of the vaccine.

HealthCare Australia, the company contracted to facilitate the program in Queensland, has been reprimanded for the incident and the CEO has been stood aside, according to Health Minister Greg Hunt.

Mr Hunt told parliament today there had been a slowdown of the rollout as the company reviewed its processes and practices

“In six of the eight states and territories, the provider Aspen, is meeting all of their deadlines and contracts,” Mr Hunt said.

“There have been some reports out of Queensland and New South Wales, which are accurate, that facilities which had expected to be vaccinated today have not been, that is because the provider in question, HealthCare Australia, slowed down their rollout in response to a demand from the department that they provide an absolute guarantee of clinical certainty and quality.

“They are on notice of termination.”

Mr Hunt said as of yesterday night, 71 of the 240 facilities marked for week 1 distribution had been completed, with the others to be reached within three days of the Sunday deadline.
