International holidays might still be on the distant horizon for most Australians, but this doesn’t mean the cultural splendours of the world can’t come to Toowoomba.

Bonjour Toowoomba is celebrating Multicultural Queensland Month by taking the community around the world with them in three hours or less at its open day event on Sunday, August 29.

“We’ve got cultural activities from all over the world, including salsa dancing, K-Pop busking, German games, authentic Italian pasta making, international sausage tasting, Russian snow cones and a Frozen themed snow castle for the kids,” owner Jennifer Rix said.

Mrs Rix said the language school currently had 120 students enrolled in more than 20 different language classes with 95 per cent of their teachers being native speakers.

“Our open day is all about showing people how much fun it can be to earn a language and explore a new culture,” She said.

“Just because we can’t travel doesn't mean we can’t enjoy all the things that make exploring other countries fun.”

Founded in 2014 by French native, Gwendoline Perrett, Mrs Rix bought the school in January this year.

“I’ve always loved learning about other cultures and nationalities and as a country girl I loved meeting international students at university and taking them back home to see what regional Australia was like,” she said.

“Toowoomba is fortunate to have a really wide and colourful multicultural background, and I’ve always believed there’s no better way to gain an appreciation for another culture than to learn a new language.”
