Toowoomba woman wins $823k division one prize in Christmas Eve Gold Lotto

A Toowoomba woman has been left shell-shocked on Christmas after she won Gold Lotto’s division one prize. Here’s what she is going to spend it on.

A Toowoomba retiree has been handed an incredible Christmas present after she won division one in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw – worth an astonishing $823,000.

The woman, who bought her ticket at the News Extra Central City newsagency on Margaret St, didn’t realise she had won the Christmas Eve draw until the following day.

“Christmas Eve we’d been busy, and then we had lunch on Christmas Day,” she said.

“It was only in the afternoon that I looked at my emails and saw a message saying I’d won something.

“I thought I might have won $700 or something like that.

“When it said I’d won more than $823,000, I nearly slipped over.

“I’ve been playing for years and years. I can’t quite believe I’ve finally won.”

The woman said she already knew what she planned to buy with the money.

“With this prize, I want to get a new car and a new fridge – they both need an upgrade. I also want to help my family,” she said.

“This means a lot to me. It means we won’t have to worry about a thing ever again.”

The prize was exciting for newsagent Scott Talbot, who said it was his first division one win.

“This newsagency has been in the family for 26 years, but we’ve owned it for three years, and this is our first division one winning entry,” he said.

“We are going for the trifecta this week – we want to sell a division one winning ticket in Powerball’s $100m draw and then in the weekend’s $40 Million Megadraw.”

Across Australia, there were seven division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4323 – two each from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and one from Western Australia.
