Toowoomba duck chases would-be robber from Aqua 4 Life owner’s home

Scary dogs and hi-tech alarms were no match for Dwayne the duck who was caught on camera chasing a trespasser off his owner’s Toowoomba property. WATCH THE VIDEO

A would-be trespasser has been left empty-handed and red faced after she was foiled by Dwayne the duck.

Harristown resident David Athorn was at a mate’s place on Friday afternoon when he got a notification from his home’s CCTV system that there was movement at his property.

“I didn’t think anything of it, I just thought it was the duck mucking around with his girlfriend down the backyard,” he said.

“When I got home I checked the footage and saw that he was chasing someone away from the house.

“He was certainly earning his keep.”

Mr Athorn said Dwayne was quite protective of his home and had been hand raised since he was about a week old.

Now five months old, Mr Athorn said Dwayne was just as effective as any guard dog or alarm system.

“The funny thing is he isn’t a vicious duck, he is usually quite chill but he has really bonded with me,” Mr Athorn said.

While the attempted break-in ended in failure for the trespasser, Mr Athorn said crime was a concern for the Harristown community.

“That’s why I got the cameras installed, there’s been quite a few break-ins and things like that in the area,” he said.

Dwayne the duck, a five-month-old muscovy, managed to chase away a would-be trepasser from his owner's Harristown home.

“People are really vigilant, doing things like locking the front door even while they’re out the back. It shouldn’t be a thing, but it is.

“Or, people could not lock their doors and get a duck instead.”
