Toowoomba Bypass repair works are expected to continue into the new year, as construction conditions and additional treatments delayed its 2024 completion.
Repair works on a cutting of the Toowoomba Bypass east of the Multuggerah Viaduct are expected to continue into the first half of 2025, a statement from Transport and Main Roads said.
Initially scheduled to be completed in late 2024, additional rock stabilisation treatments such as rock bolting and soil nailing along with construction conditions had delayed the repairs, it said.
“For the safety of motorists and to allow for the work to be undertaken, the outer-eastbound lane of the bypass will remain closed and the speed through the site is now at 60km/h,” a TMR spokesman said.
“Traffic flow has not been significantly impeded by the lane closure.
“370,000m3 of material has already been shifted from the hill on the north side of the bypass, using an innovative conveyor belt system to ferry the material to the south side of the road.”
Another update on the works would be sent out again in early 2025 for motorists and to the heavy vehicle industry, the statement said.
