TGS fundraiser to help support McGrath Foundation

The stumps, balls, gloves, grips, pads and wickets at a Toowoomba school will all go pink this weekend for a worthy cause.

Toowoomba Grammar School’s ovals will be dotted with pink this weekend as the school tries to help bowl over breast cancer.

This Saturday, TGS will host its annual Pink Stumps Day, a cricket fundraiser to help raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

The event will be held in conjunction with round six of the GPS cricket season, which will see teams of all year levels face off against Churchie.

“The boys are all pumped, they get to dot on the pink zinc, we have pink grips for sale, all of the creases will be marked pink, pink boundaries,” TGS cricket director Peter Dein said.

“(The students) are all over the moon, they can’t wait to get involved and it adds a bit of excitement to the game.

“It’s always tough against Churchie – but it’s tough every week as I’ve come to realise that all of the GPS teams are very strong and very well organised.”

Mr Dein said the school was hoping to raise more than $1000, which would help bolster the number of breast cancer nurses at the McGrath Foundation.

“Developing the boys in important to the school, not just from an academic side, not just from a sporting side, but also in giving back to the community,” Mr Dein said.

“We’re hoping to get a big crowd out here and hopefully raise a bit of money for a good cause.”

Year 6 TGS student Ethan Fryer said him and his teammates were ready for the competition.

“Everyone is looking forward to playing against Churchie and everyone’s quite nervous too,” Ethan said.
