A Toowoomba private school has moved to reassure parents after it was revealed a school rugby league team was staying at a southeast Queensland school where a student has now tested positive for Covid-19.
In a letter sent to parents, seen by The Chronicle, St Joseph’s College principal Kort Goodman confirmed the college’s confraternity rugby league team was accommodated at St Patrick’s College at Shorncliffe on Sunday and Monday night.
At a press conference this morning, chief health officer Jeannette Young confirmed the younger brother of the unvaccinated teenage Prince Charles Hospital worker became infectious on June 26 while on Magnetic Island and attended a tennis camp at Wooloowin on Monday.
St Patrick’s College at Shorncliffe has since written to parents advising them of the positive test, saying the student is “in good spirits, though unwell and is being isolated in hospital”.
In the St Joseph’s College letter to parents Mr Goodman said the boy was not at school during the probably transmission period but was a part of the tennis co-curricular program on Monday, June 28 from 8.30am to 10.30am.
“This information has obviously created concern for some parents and students, however, it is important to note that this St Patrick’s student was not in the area our students and staff were accommodated,” the letter states.
“Our students and staff departed St Patrick’s College well before 8.30am and returned late in the afternoon on Monday June 28.
“In response to this situation we would encourage all of our students, staff and families who attended confraternity to continue to be vigilant in adhering to the lockdown restrictions and to get tested if any symptoms become evident.”
