St George councillor Ian Todd has resigned after six years serving on the Balonne Shire Council, citing personal reasons.
In his resignation letter, Mr Todd said he was honoured to serve the shire.
“It has been a privilege and an honour to serve the residents and ratepayers of the Balonne Shire for the past six and a half years,” Mr Todd said.
“I thank my fellow councillors and staff of the Balonne Shire Council for their support and effort as we worked together towards realising the full potential of the Balonne Shire.”
Along with his work on the council, Mr Todd has run a cotton and grain operation near St George for the past 30 years and for the past 10 years has sat on the Northern Basin Advisory Committee, providing advice to the Murray Darling Basin Authority.
Balonne Shire mayor Samantha O’Toole said she thanked Mr Todd for his efforts in the community.
“Councillor Todd has been actively involved in many projects, including the Wild Dog Exclusion Fencing Scheme, the St George Pump Station build, the development of the St George Library and establishment of Country Universities Centre Balonne,” she said.
“I want to thank councillor Todd for his time serving the Balonne community and for his contributions during his time as a councillor.”
Mr Todd handed in his resignation letter on September 15 after a council meeting, with his resignation effective immediately.
A by-election to fill the vacancy will be announced by the Electoral Commission in the coming weeks with voting most likely to be conducted via a postal ballot.
