Toowoomba Regional Council have recently announced the completion of the $600,000 safety upgrade of the intersection of South Street and Burton Street in Harristown.

Councillor Carol Taylor said the upgrade would improve the intersection’s overall safety and operation as well as cater for future traffic demands.

“The intersection will be safer for all users including motorists, pedestrians, students, parents and staff from Harristown State Primary School, Harristown State High School and Concordia Lutheran College,” Ms Taylor said.

“The project included installing new traffic signals, removing the existing pedestrian crossing, upgrading street lighting, resurfacing and line marking. Motorists can now make a safe right-hand turn from Burton Street into South Street.”

The project was delivered as part of Council’s Pandemic Response Investment Program and substantially funded through the Queensland Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program.

“Council is very appreciative of the Queensland Government’s $415,000 contribution to this project,” Ms Taylor said.

“This is one of 64 projects being accelerated to stimulate economic activity across the Toowoomba Region.”
