A LANE of the Toowoomba Bypass has been closed due to issues stemming from "heavy rain", the company that built the road says.
A Nexus Infrastructure spokeswoman said the lane closure, at Ballard just east of the viaduct, was expected to be in place until February 16.
"Due to recent heavy rain, the operations and maintenance subcontractor for Nexus Infrastructure has closed a short section of the left-hand eastbound lane of the Toowoomba Bypass between the viaduct and Morley's Road underpass," the spokeswoman said.
"As a fully operated and maintained road, routine checks are carried out daily on the Bypass and more so during poor weather conditions to ensure safety of users.
"It has been identified during these checks there is loose material near the top of two of the cuttings and in one case it needs to be removed, as a precaution."
She said the temporary lane closure was 100 metres long and was expected to be in place until February 16 when the repair works should be complete, weather permitting.
"Traffic speed has been reduced to 60km/h for the closure period to ensure the safety of road users," she said.
"Traffic will continue to use the other lane in this section and delays are not expected."
