QFES advertise for First Nations bushfire safety officers across Queensland

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have introduced eight new First Nations positions to improve bushfire safety, with job listings advertised for the Darling Downs.

Eight new First Nations positions have been created within the ranks of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to help improve bushfire safety, with positions being advertised for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

The First Nations Bushfire Safety Officer positions will focus on specialised bushfire hazard mitigation work to support traditional owners and their communities throughout Queensland.

According to the job listing, the role’s focus will be “to support enhanced bushfire hazard mitigation culture and traditional burning support to Traditional Owners their communities and stakeholders”.

“The position will support fire management groups, fire wardens/brigades and rangers to enhance community engagement so that they better understand their bushfire risk and know how to prepare,” the advertisement reads.

QFES are seeking Expressions of Interest from Rural Fire Service staff or volunteers in conjunction with the current generic Rural Officer Two (RO2), RFS role description.
