De Brenni and QBCC links are getting ‘serious’

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission conducted snap inspections of 70 building sites across Toowoomba in the past week and located only two unlicensed workers.

The crackdown was part of a month-long operation targeting Queensland building sites.

The two errant workers were among 309 tradesmen and women who had their paperwork reviewed by the regulator.

QBCC commissioner Anissa Levy said during the three-day blitz officers looked at everything from home renovation projects to new builds.

“Pleasingly, the results show us that the majority of people on work sites are licensed and doing a great job,” she said.

“However, those two people who are suspected of performing unlicensed work are now

subject to further investigations which could result in potential prosecution.

“We are also investigating a number of other individuals who committed minor offences, and we intend to issue them with warnings or educational letters.”

An individual or company caught working without a licence faces fines of up to $3,096 or prosecuted.

Repeat offending can lead to imprisonment for up to a year.
