The organisers of Toowoomba Turf Club’s inaugural Pink Ribbon Race Day are still counting the money raised from the weekend event, but it is expected to be well in excess of $5000.
Business manager Hamish Carter said Saturday’s celebration drew a large crowd and fierce competition for the charity auction items.
“Everyone had a good time, but more importantly, we have raised a lot of money and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” he said.
Pink Ribbon Race Days are held at tracks across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, but the past weekend’s event was a first for the Toowoomba Turf Club.
Mr Carter said the club intended to make it a regular event that would serve as a curtain raiser for the 1Equine Toowoomba Weetwood Race Day.
“All through, the foundation does these events and with any luck we can stay in the mix and continue to raise money,” he said.
Weetwood, Toowoomba’s premier racing and social day out, will be held on September 28.
