New England Highway crash: One person dead, three with serious injuries after head-on

A woman has died and three people have suffered a range of serious injuries after two vehicles collided on the New England Highway north of Toowoomba.

A woman has died and two teenagers and another woman have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle head-on crash on the New England Highway north of Toowoomba.

Police said that about 11.20am on Friday a Hyundai Tucson travelling southbound collided with a Toyota Kluger travelling northbound.

A 32-year-old Hampton woman, the driver and single occupant of the Tucson, was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 36-year-old Oakey woman, was airlifted in a serious condition to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Her two passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, were also seriously injured the crash.

The girl was flown in a serious condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital while the boy was driven in a serious condition to Toowoomba Hospital.

The crash caused significant delays to traffic along the highway, with police establishing a diversion along Merritts Creek Rd for several hours.

The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
