New business launches with festive cupcakes and personalised present cake

A Toowoomba woman who is self-taught when it comes to cake baking and decorating has some mind-blowing artistic skills. She has just launched her business after 12 years of encouragement from family and friends, kicking off with festive-themed treats.

A Toowoomba woman with incredible baking and cake decorating skills has just launched a business after years of encouragement from family, friends and customers.

Tahneea Hoffman has kicked off her business, Hoffcake Co, offering intricately decorated Christmas cupcakes as well as an amazing fondant gift-wrapped cake.

Ms Hoffman has been perfecting the art of cake decorating for 12 years and is proudly self-taught.

She said she found a Planet Cake book and had no idea cakes could look so impressive.

“I was hooked from my first attempt. I am self-taught as there was no YouTube videos back then and cake decorating hadn’t yet become the next big thing.

“I am a creative person so this is the perfect outlet for me. Being a perfectionist also helps contribute to my beautiful designs.”

Hoffcake Co specialises in cupcakes and cakes, and will soon be introducing cookies.

“I can do pretty much any cake my customers can think of. I love to be challenged,” she said.

“I can do both sponge and mud cakes as well as buttercream and ganache fillings. I will be expanding my buttercream recipes as well as my cake and ganache flavours.

“I enjoy modelling sculptures for my cakes and cupcakes. The more miniature, the more I enjoy it, even if it takes five hours.”

Ms Hoffman has been busy making cakes for family and friends for years but decided it was time to take the next step and officially become a business.

“I kept putting it off and customers couldn’t believe I didn’t do this for a full-time job,” she said.

“Since 2020 has been such a strange year, why not finish it off with a bang.

“I’m just starting out small but ideally would like to set up a cafe in Toowoomba to sell my baked goods daily. With any luck, that might be within the next 12 months.”

She said she loved cake decorating because it gave her creative freedom.

“I love creating a new design just for that special someone. I love the reaction on people’s faces when they see my cakes,” she said.

“I love my own reaction when I finally see the end result after hours and hours of hard work, sometimes days.

“I also enjoying people biting into my cakes and devouring them, surprised the cake tastes as good as it looks.

“I have loved to bake since I was a kid, I guess this seems to be the natural path I took.”

Ms Hoffman’s festive cupcakes and cakes are available to order now.

There is a 6-pack of cupcakes for $22 or 12-pack for $39. Customers can choose from chocolate or vanilla sponge with a buttercream icing and handmade toppers.

You can also order a six or eight inch Christmas present cake which comes with an edible gift tag that can be personalised for each customer.

The cakes can either be vanilla or chocolate with a vanilla buttercream centre and lightly covered with a dark or white chocolate ganache. The cost is $50 for a six-inch or $65 for an eight-inch.

Customers can either pick-up their baked goods or get them delivered for $5.
