A PLAN to turn an old Toowoomba industrial building into a fitness gymnasium has been put forward to the council for consideration.
Applicant G and K Lawson Constructions Pty Ltd proposed the plans for the 24/7 gym on Stephen St in South Toowoomba this week.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the new gym would run group fitness classes and feature cross fit facilities, general gym equipment, a creche and an ancillary retail area for the sale of sports supplements and other products.
"The proposed gym will be located entirely within the existing building and will involve the internal alteration of the building only, including the construction of additional mezzanine level floor area," the report said.
"The ground floor of the building will be modified internally to make provision for a foyer, reception, office, staffroom, consult rooms, male and female amenities, a creche, group fitness room, ancillary retail area, and cross fit court.
"The upper floor will include the internal modification and extension of the existing mezzanine floor to provide a machine floor and training room."
The applicant will renovate the front of the industrial building to improve its visual appearance from the street.
More than 20 car parks will also be created as part of the development.
The council has yet to respond to the application with a request for further information.
