Covid-19 vaccine Moderna has arrived on Australian shores and is already available at more than 20 pharmacies across Toowoomba.

The vaccine, which has previously been offered in other countries across the world, requires two doses about 4-6 weeks apart.

Moderna has been approved for use in by the Therapeutic Goods Administration for people aged 12 years and older.

But it is also only available to people younger than 60.

People over the age of 60 are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine, though the Queensland Government allowed people in this age bracket to receive Pfizer during superclinics across the state at the weekend.

The first million doses arrived in Australia late last week and were distributed to 1800 pharmacies across the country.

Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland branch president Chris Owen said almost 800

community pharmacies would begin to administer Moderna Covid-19 vaccines this week in Queensland.

“We’ve been blown away at the response from Queenslanders wanting to come in have access to Covid-19 vaccinations through their community pharmacy,” he said.

Another million Moderna doses are expected this month.

It is the second vaccine to be approved by the TGA using mRNA technology, the first being Pfizer.

This technology instructs the body’s cells to make a protein that triggers an immune response against Covid-19.

Darling Downs Health continues to administer Pfizer at superclinics across the region.

Pharmacies across the city continue to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine, as do many GPs.

To get the Pfizer vaccine, you can attend the Clifford Gardens superclinic.

While you can walk in to the clinic, you will need to be registered before you can get your first dose.
