Toowoomba teen Maverick Parkinson remains in a critical condition in a Brisbane hospital two days after he suffered a critical head injury in an e-scooter crash.

The severity of his injuries and the difficulties his family faces have led to an outpouring of support with almost $2000 donated to the local fundraising campaign, launched by a close friend Julie Bousen.

“We are praying that he will recover,” she said.

“It is a horrible situation but we just don’t know what kind of damage has been done to his brain at this point.”

The 17-year-old boy was riding along Ruthven St when he hit the kerb near the James St intersection, falling forward and landing on his head about 11.30am on Monday.

While the young man was wearing a helmet at the time, it is understood there was enough force behind the impact to stop his heart.

Luckily, a member of the public intervened and provided CPR until paramedics arrived.

Maverick was rushed to the Toowoomba Hospital where he was stabilised before he was transferred to the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s intensive care unit.

He remains in a critical condition, in an induced coma.

Ms Bousen launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Maverick’s family as they have put their lives on hold while he recovers.

“Kym is on a disability pension but she has to pay for a hotel in Brisbane so she can be with her son,” she said.

“He is a good kid – like a typical 17-year-old, he loves his family and loves his mum.”
