Friends of Mathew Hawkins, the man injured in an alleged fight at Gatton’s Commercial Hotel, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support his family as he recovers from a critical blow to the head.
Mr Hawkins was leaving the pub about midnight on December 10 when an altercation allegedly broke out between several people, including Charlie John Coveney.
He was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane where he was placed in an induced coma.
Friend Skye Payne launched the fundraising campaign and said both of Mr Hawkins' parents have taken time off work to be by his side.
“(His doctors) had to operate twice to stop his brain bleeding and removed a part of his skull to allow his brain to swell,” she said
“There is a possibility when they try to wake him he won’t wake and if he does there’s a high chance that he will have some sort of disability from this (alleged) attack.
“Mathews’s parents have had to stop work due to being by his side through this tough emotional time, so I’m asking if any donation big or small will be very helpful.”
The campaign has attracted about $1800 in donations.
