Teens arrested after Toowoomba police track stolen Kia Stinger to Grand Central Shopping Centre

Police have recovered one of two high-powered sports cars that were stolen from Toowoomba homes in the past week and have been causing grief across South East Queensland. Read how they caught the thieves here.

A combined police operation involving plain clothes and general duties officers, assisted by a Polair crew, was successful in arresting two 16-year-old boys who were caught in possession of a stolen Kia Stinger sports car.

The vehicle was stolen from a Toowoomba home about a week ago and had been active in the area.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said the vehicle was observed on Sunday afternoon with a Polair chopper tracking it to Grand Central Shopping Centre.

“It was abandoned and two males were taken into custody,” he said.

One of the 16-year-old boys was held in custody overnight and will face Toowoomba Childrens Court on Monday charged with one count each of receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with two counts of stealing.

Police charged the second boy with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and released on bail conditions in line with the Youth Justice Act.

A second Kia Stinger, grey in colour, was stolen from a Newton address on December 6 and remains at large.

It was last sighted in Ipswich.

Police are also looking for a blue 2012 BMW 120i (636TRG) that was stolen from a Drayton address on December 6 and was last sighted in Toowoomba about 10.30am on Sunday.

A red Hyundai Elantra sedan is also active in Toowoomba after it was stolen from a Wilsonton home on December 1.

It was most recently seen on Tor Street about 4.30pm on Sunday.

“We ask anyone who observes these vehicles to contact police,” Sgt McCusker said.
