Unless you are a lover of exercise, working out isn’t always fun.
But a Toowoomba woman’s non-traditional fitness classes are proof you can enjoy yourself while keeping fit.
Di Stiller launched FITness FiXXation after clients of hers at a local gym asked if she could offer a slower Zumba class.
The gym couldn’t cater to any more classes so Mrs Stiller decided to go out on her own, offering a range of group exercise classes.
The business has grown since its launch and is particularly popular this year with fresh new year’s resolutions being made and many residents wanting to get fit and healthy after months in isolations last year.
Mrs Stiller said her classes were suited to everyone.
“There is flexibility to perform at your own pace no matter which class you choose,” she said.
“On offer is a class for kids from seven to 12 years as well as classes for the young adult and the very mature adult.
“Really age is but a number, I have participants in their 80s who are regulars to all adult classes.”
FITness FiXXation started out by offering Zumba Gold which is modified version of Zumba Fitness with the same Latin and international based moves and music as a fitness class, but is lower in intensity and easier to follow.
It now also offers a number of Jungle Body classes which are inspired by music and are full body workouts, as well as Clubbercise which is held in a nightclub setting with hits from the 90s to now.
Mrs Stiller said all classes were a lot of fun but still got the same results as a regular workout.
“They are easy to follow and offer a wide variety of music and moves. With Jungle Body, I change tracks weekly so that participants have a set core of familiar tracks that become their comfort zone, then add one or two new tracks each week to challenge the body and keep the mind active,” she said.
“My night classes all have the lights off and I use party lights to set the mood.
“It also gives people confidence to let loose in a low light environment and to feel less self-conscious.”
She said the reason her classes were popular was because the moves were simple and the interval training ensured participants got fitter faster.
“Making moves simple enables participants to work as easy or as hard as they want to,” she said.
“Simplicity enables participants to feel a sense of achievement and good music is also a huge attraction.
“If you love the fitness program you are doing then it doesn’t feel like you’re exercising – as they say time flies when you are having fun.
“It is also so much easier to stick to a program that is fun and still see and feel the results from doing it.”
