A core principal in business for colleagues Isabelle Chassain and Stella Gentry is community – it’s something that has inspired them to begin a new venture of opening up their community to the rest of the Toowoomba region.
With that in mind, the pair set out on creating the Made With Love Toowoomba Markets, opening this weekend.
The new set of travelling markets will be making its way through the Toowoomba region over the coming months, showcasing the best handmade goods on offer.
About 60 makers are booked in for the first set of markets, due to hit Toowoomba on Sunday, March 20.
Being makers themselves, the founders of the markets and owners of Made With Love at Toowoomba Plaza say handmade businesses provide a lot of value in the community.
“Stella and I run our own handmade businesses and when Covid occurred we started a pop up at Walton Stores,” Ms Chassain said.
“It was supposed to be temporary to help other makers get out into the community.
“A lot of these makers are mums and dads.
“This is their secondary income to supplement their wages and it’s important to us because it’s important to them.”
The co-founders noticed a gap in the market, saying Toowoomba doesn’t have a lot of homemade markets, and some of the towns outside the city have minimal opportunities to showcase their homemade goods.
“We’re hoping to be able to grow it into a regular monthly market where it’s something to look forward to,” Ms Chassain said.
“But also giving these microbusinesses that are just starting up the chance to experience what a market is like before they venture in to the bigger markets.”
The markets will travel to Toowoomba, Oakey, Pittsworth and Crows Nest in the coming months, opening on Sunday at the Goods Shed.
