A popular pub and tourism destination in one of the Toowoomba region’s small towns has hit the market, with agents highlighting its development upside for a new owner.
The Get Chopped Pub Greenmount has been listed for sale through LJ Hooker Toowoomba via an expressions of interest campaign.
Originally called the Greenmount Hotel, the pub has become the host of several community and tourism events that draw people to the town of 750, including the enormously popular Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge.
In a social media video, venue co-owner Brendon Quirey said the pub was scaling down its offerings during the campaign as part of a “much-needed rest”.
“What we’ve decided to do during this campaign is to scale the pub down to simply run as a bar with no meals,” he said.
“What this does is it gives us an opportunity to have a much needed rest, and a little bit of clear air to start planning our next project.
“We’d like to say thank you for the amazing support over the period – we’ve made lifelong friends here, and we believe that the next people coming in have extraordinary opportunities ahead of them – can’t wait to see what happens.”
Lead agent Chris Stewart said the owners were ready to move on by offering the entire site as a freehold purchase.
“It’s fully set up, it’s got a full commercial kitchen, full running bar, no tabs on the lease or anything like that, so you can come in and sort out which brewery and which alcohol company you want to go to,” he said.
“It’s a big part of the community out there, it’s a big tourism driver when they hold their events and they’d love to see the lucky eventual purchaser carry on their legacy of doing those things out there, because it does bring a lot to Greenmount.”
Mr Stewart said the pub’s zoning and available land at the back made it ideal for someone to extend the venue or add new features.
“It’s got plenty of upside, it’s a really big block of land, the pub’s built on the front corner and there’s the opportunity to add a bottle shop, add a bigger beer garden or do a bit of development on-site,” he said.
“It’s one of two blocks in Greenmount that are zoned commercially and it’s got township zoning, which gives you flexibility of what you can do there as well.
“You’ve got an additional lot to the back that you can potentially subdivide and cut it off if you wanted to, or you can build on it as well.”
The land has been the home of a pub since the early 20th century, with the current two-storey building having stood there since 1939.
The expressions of interest campaign ends on April 18.
