Essence Peregian Beach review: Why coast destination is ready for holiday boom
Some people might look at it as a still underrated location, but there are a few key reasons this coastal destination is well overdue to be known beyond its difficult to pronounce name.

It’s a cliche to call an area a “hidden gem” or perhaps underrated, but Peregian Beach seems to fall under these trite umbrellas.
This small coastal town seems destined to soon be known for more than the dubious title of being the mispronounced beach in the world.
Perhaps it ultimately speaks to my unfamiliarity with the small town, which is booming with clothing boutiques, upscale restaurants and up-market homeware stores.
The area’s newest hotel, Essence Peregian Beach, appears to be well positioned to capitalise on this prime family destination.
This new accommodation is positioned just off the main road, and flanked by the Sunshine Coast’s world class beaches and the vast bushland that stretches out west.
The two-storey home we are staying at for the next two days complements the luxury and boutique vibe Peregian exudes as you stroll down its main mall.
If you’re looking for accommodation that still maintains a homely feel while you’re in paradise, this is a fantastic option.
The top-of-the-line fit-out extends to the kitchen and bathrooms, which provide more than enough space for families that want to stretch out beyond a typical hotel.
Just a short walk from the home are both magnesium pools, which prove to be a perfect temperature for a dip in the months when the ocean is still a little too chilly.
The upscale feel extends to these common locations, which are fitted with the daybeds and assorted furniture many have come to expect from a luxury hotel.
For those who don’t want to venture far, Essence is the type of place where you can put away the car keys for your stay.
Situated just outside the complex is the Outer Space cafe, where you can grab a bite to eat every morning, and on selected nights.
The cafe’s chilli scramble ($20), topped with chorizo crumb, is one of the highlights – the perfect blend of richness and spice to kickstart the morning.
While we only sampled a small portion of the gastronomic selections you can find here, there were a couple of other quick highlights found in our two days.
The Peregian Beach Hotel is a great place to grab a feed or a craft beer, and Mariella Mexicantina is the place to find delicious and authentic Mexican food along this stretch of the coast.
The rest of our stay was spent just a stone’s throw across David Low Way, shopping or relaxing on the beach.
And relaxed is the key word when it comes to Peregian.
When you’re staying in brand-new, luxury accommodation with everything you could possibly need at your feet, why wouldn’t it be?
Peregian will probably continue to be notoriously mispronounced as its status as a luxury coastal destination grows.
If it really still is a hidden gem, it won’t be for much longer.
