“It is with great excitement and pleasure that the Empire Theatre announces the 2022 major production will be Queen and Ben Elton hit jukebox musical, We Will Rock You,” a spokeswoman for the theatre said.
It’s still early days for the production, with the Empire Theatre yet to yet appoint a director, choreographer, designer or any of the creative team but auditions are taking place in October with the cast announced in November and the highly energetic musical set to take to the stage for six big shows from Friday March, 18 to Saturday, March 26.
“The rock and roll jukebox musical is based around the music of legendary band Queen and written by acclaimed writer Ben Elton,” the Empire theatre spokeswoman said.
“Set in a dystopian future where globalisation and consumerism rules all and resistance is growing. The story follows young rebels Galileo and Scaramouche as they risk everything to rediscover rock in a world where musical instruments are banned.”
The entertaining storyline is accompanied by the timeless musical hits of Queen including Another One Bites the Dust, Somebody to Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You.
Tickets to the We Will Rock You musicals go on sale Friday, August 13 at 9am.
