Darling Downs Health will provide doses of the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine at a super clinic at Goondiwindi Hospital from June 25 to July 1.
Annette Scott, Executive Lead for the Darling Downs Health Emergency Operations Centre,
said the Goondiwindi clinic had been set up in response to a positive case travelling
through the area recently.
A 44-year-old Victoria woman tested positive for Covid after visiting the McDonald’s Goondiwindi restaurant from 7.35m-7.50am on June 5.
“Given Goondiwindi’s location and exposure to traffic from interstate it made sense to provide a targeted clinic to offer the vaccine to as many residents as possible,” she said.
“The clinic will be operating in B-Block of Goondiwindi Hospital from this Friday,
through until Thursday July 1, 8.30am to 4pm each day, including Saturday and Sunday.
The clinic will be on a walk-in basis, so there will be no set times for bookings, but it is essential to register before you come to the clinic.
“You’ll be seeing around town now there are posters in numerous locations with details of the
clinic and a QR code to scan to register your interest,” Ms Scott said.
The clinic would be open to people aged 16 to 59 years, in line with recent changes to the medical advice about who should get the Pfizer jab.
“We must emphasise that for people who have already had a first dose of the AstraZeneca
vaccine, the advice remains that if there was no serious adverse reaction after that first dose, you should go ahead and have the second dose of AstraZeneca,” Ms Scott said.
“To access your second AstraZeneca dose please talk with your GP.”
The Goondiwindi clinic is free and will be open all weekend.
“We remind everyone who wants to have their vaccine, you must pre-register, and when you
come to the clinic please bring your ID, Medicare card, and a pen,” Ms Scott said.
“There will be a follow-up clinic to provide the second dose from July 30-August 5.”
