Nothing is certain in rugby league but looking back to round 1 it was almost certain Chris Woodbridge was going to be a Webcke-Price Medal contender.
Playing in his first competitive game for Dalby Diehards, the dazzling fullback scored a double, kicked 5 conversions and a field goal in his side’s 35-28 defeat of defending premiers Wattles.
On Friday night Woodbridge picked up Toowoomba Rugby League’s top honour, the Webcke-Price Medal, awarded to the Hutchinson Builders A-grade competition’s best male player.
It was a fitting reward for a player who has had arguably the most dominant season in TRL history.
Heading into Saturday, September 16’s grand final has scored 44 tries and amassed 400 points.
Wattles flyer Austin Jennings was the next best tryscorer with 23 and Goondiwindi’s Malcolm McGrady finished with 180 points to name.
The TRL’s night of nights was a big for one for the fullbacks with Natalia Webb picking up the other major award.
Webb was named Hancock Edwards Medal as the competition’s best and fairest player.
The Gatton Hawks star heads into the grand final with 24 tries and 96 points to her name.
