Covid vaccine Toowoomba: Darling Downs Health residents urged to be vaccinated

More than 70,000 vaccinations have been given to residents on the Darling Downs, marking a step closer to life going back to ‘normal’.

More than 64 per cent of eligible Queenslanders have had first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

SINCE one of the largest vaccine clinics on the Darling Downs opened in Clifford Gardens at the beginning of September, vaccination rates in Toowoomba have jumped almost 10 per cent.

With the 50 per cent threshold in our sights, and an 80 per cent target required to start getting life back to normal according to the national road map, experts are urging the remaining Darling Downs population to got and get the jab.

Darling Downs Health acting executive lead, Health Emergency Operations Centre, Michelle Forrest said there was no better time to be vaccinated than right now.

“Since March we have been working alongside other community-based vaccination clinics including GPs and pharmacies to provide the vaccine right across our health service region,” she said.

“It is encouraging that this will now include an additional 45 pharmacies who are now providing the Moderna vaccine.”

Ms Forrest said more than 70,000 Covid-19 vaccinations had been provided at Darling Downs Health vaccination clinics, including 8403 at the Clifford Gardens community clinic.

The Clifford Gardens clinic is now open seven days a week, including the upcoming public holiday on Monday.

Another push for vaccinations comes as Queensland recorded six new Covid-19 cases, four of which were locally acquired.

South east Queensland is now on edge, awaiting more details of the cases, and a pending lockdown should cases increase.
