City police stop more than 1000 drivers during new operation

A police operation has netted a several drink and drug drivers on a busy Toowoomba street.

More than a thousand Toowoomba drivers were stopped during Operation Anticline, a police operation conducted on Bridge St on January 22.

Twenty five city police officers intercepted drivers heading both east and westbound on Bridge St, Torrington throughout the day to perform drug and breath tests.

According to the Queensland Police Service, the interaction was both positive and educational, with many of the drivers appreciative of the police presence and response in the area.

During the operation, 1192 drivers were breath tested and 11 drivers drug tested, which resulted in five positive drug tests and six negative.

Alongside this, 13 people were charged with traffic matters and four drivers received traffic infringement notices.

A QPS spokesman said overall police were happy with the behaviour of drivers leading into the last weekend of the school holidays.
