City author prepares for launch of first thriller

Toowoomba author Susan Fuss is gearing up for the release of her first book, I Am The Sand.

NEW RELEASE: Toowoomba author Susan Fuss says writing her new thriller I Am The Sand was a cathartic experience.

The psychological thriller follows the journey of a young kidnap victim named Chloe, who plots an ingenious plan to escape from her unhinged captor.

Ms Fuss said the writing process had been a “cathartic exercise”.

“I’m not a victim of abuse, but I am interested in the extremes of human behaviour,” Ms Fuss said.

“I loved the writing part, I was absorbed in it.

“I started writing as a way to clear away the cobwebs, I always feel better when I get it down on paper.”

Ms Fuss said she drew inspiration from her time teaching at the Westbrook Detention Centre, with the book touching on underlying themes of trauma and PTSD.

The book is set to be released this Friday.
