A local pharmacy has donated more than $5000 worth of beauty and skincare products to Protea Place, to support victims of family and domestic violence.
Highfields Discount Drug Store made its first donation in April and are committed to continually helping the women’s charity.
Protea Place provides practical and professional support for women in need, connecting them to vital health and housing services, as well as providing essential items such as showers, meals, clothing, and toiletries to help get them back on their feet.
CEO Amanda Dalton said she was incredibly grateful to the generous team for their donation.
“Many of the women we support have had to flee violent and unsafe situations, often with just the clothes they are wearing,” she said.
“The make-up, skincare and beauty products they’ve donated is such a gift to help restore a sense of dignity and strength for these women as they begin to rebuild their lives and integrate back into society after extremely challenging times.”
Highfields Discount Drug Store owners, Roslyn and Michael Zuyderwyk, plan to support the charity long term.
“As soon as we heard about Protea Place we wanted to find a way to get involved and support their important work. Instead of selling left over makeup and skincare products in our end of season sale, we decided to package these up to into bundles to gift to the charity,” Mrs Zuyderwyk said.
“It’s rewarding to think that in some small way we can help make these women feel special and valued at a time when they may be feeling alone.
“As local business owners for more than 15 years, we’re proud to give back to our community and support grassroots charities wherever possible. We’re excited to continue our relationship with Protea Place and support them into the future.”
