Antony’s Bakery takes home top gong at royal bread show

A popular Toowoomba bakery has once again topped the King of the Bakers championship at this year’s 2021 Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Bread Show.

Antony’s Bakery and Patisseries has once again topped the King of the Bakers championship, with the team crowned number one for the third year in a row.

The city bakery cleaned up in a number of categories during the 2021 Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Bread Show on Friday, including most successful cake exhibitor and best speciality bread.

Antony’s Bakery and Patisserie owner Antony Blackey said winning the show’s King of the Bakers championship for a third time had been “a good reward”.

“We’re really happy about it,” Mr Blackey said.

“We did pretty well this year, we won the cake section and the bread section and a few of the other speciality awards, so it was a good week and a good night.

“We were nice and busy Saturday morning.”

Mr Blackey’s apprentice Ben Millar was also recognised for his work during the competition, taking home the Woolworth’s Supermarket Queensland Most Successful first and second year apprentice award.

“(The organisers) told me numbers of competitors were up on last year, which was surprising given COVID-19 and all of the affects of it,” Mr Blackey said.

“Speaks volumes about the people in the industry, who are still willing to go and have a night out and compete against one another.”
